Time She Stopped — Revisiting Rockabye by Samuel Beckett

Iimori Hall, Kyoto University
July 2019

Commissioned by the 14th Convention of the Association for Studies of Culture and Representation, under the theme of “The Representations of Apocalypse”, ARICA presented a work referring to Samuel Beckett’s play Rockabye.
Separation of voice and body is an element characteristic of Samuel Beckett‘s late period. In this performance we attempt to create a virtual image of the performer, separated like a ghost and looking at her “real” self on stage via video projection, so that Beckettian state of “ending but not being able to end” is more compellingly visualized.
